It looks difficult, but with the help of a good instructor, people of all ages and abilities can be gliding across the water, windsurfing in no time.
Anastasia Water Sports is the only place around that offers windsurfing lessons.
Linda and Jim Craig purchased Anastasia Water Sports on April 1, 2007.
Anastasia Water Sports operates on an idyllic, three mile tidal lagoon of Salt Run in Anastasia State Park.
Jim is a self-taught windsurfer. Linda and Jim’s daughter Emily also windsurfs and gives instructions.
For beginners, the Craigs start with a 5 to 10 minute step-by-step lesson on land. Next is a one-hour instruction on water. The instructor sails next to the windsurfer until he or she is comfortable. The key is balance and the Craigs have taught children as young as four years old to windsurf.
Linda loves kayaking and has been coming to Anastasia Watersports since her daughter was 1 year old. She would often remind the former owners to keep her in mind if they ever decided to sell the business. They took Linda up on her offer and Jim and Linda bought the business two weeks before the beginning of the 2007 season opening.
